Healing Tools for the Modern Woman
conjure: con-jure /ˈkänjər/ Make (something) appear unexpectedly or seemingly from nowhere as if by magic.
The Life of a "Conjure Woman" . . .
Modern American Women are often fed a damaging rhetoric of "hard work" and presented
with the impossible challenge of "having it all" ,
(beauty, brains, sex appeal, high powered jobs, engaged motherhood and a happy marriage)
as the ultimate determinant of our success.
Conjure Woman challenges that ideal.
As the definition states, the conjure woman is able to make something appear unexpectedly or seemingly from nowhere as if by magic. Her magic however, is creativity.
In a world saturated by the automatic and formulaic, the Conjure Woman uses every available resource, seen and unseen, to manifest her ideal life.
The Conjure Woman first defines success as a personal, internally rooted endeavor,
then works to arrive at her desired space and place in life.
The Conjure Woman lives by TRUTH...The RevolUtionary Theory of Happiness, and therefore creates a charmed life.
The Conjure Woman has cultivated a spiritual connection that allows her to create internally and then externally a self that is healed, whole and ready for the joy that the self defined successful life brings.

Giovanni N. Dortch, Author
Giovanni is a mother, scholar, community activist, supporter of the arts, philanthropist and business owner.
In Conjure Woman, Healing Tools for the Modern Woman, she shares the skills and tools she gained over her lifetime as a single parent, social justice fighter, woman of color, and emerging scholar. Residing in the deep South, she experienced the challenges that come with being an intellectual, culturally conscious African American woman attempting to discover her own beliefs after a strong Baptist upbringing, working with little guidance to navigate the academy, and piecing together the promises and fantasies of childhood with the harsh realities of adulthood.
After making a commitment to do whatever it took to achieve her own definition of happiness and success, finding her TRUTH, she found herself being sought after by friends and strangers alike for counseling, leading her into the business of helping others get to their "happy place." She shares Conjure Woman with the world as an offering and gift of gratitude for all of the lessons learned and life experiences she has collected.
